(Grand Falls-Windsor): Support for the Every Moment Matters Campaign of Lionel Kelland Hospice continues to grow. The organization announced today that the Faught Family Foundation has contributed $25,000 to help build Newfoundland and Labrador’s first residential hospice.
Chair of the Every Moment Matters campaign, Shelley Woolfrey, welcomed the donation from the Faught Family Foundation and said, “This generous gift from George and Diane Faught helps us with the creation of a warm and inclusive place that will give people who are dying the comprehensive care they need and the privacy to say goodbye.” Aiming for a mid-2023 opening, the Hospice will feature 10 private resident suites and have spaces that allow families to gather and be supported as they journey with their loved one during the last days and moments of life.
The Faught couple has some experience with how a hospice works. Diane volunteers at the Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke, Ontario and she has a deep appreciation for the type of care provided in a hospice. She said, “The management, medical staff and volunteers at Dorothy Ley operate with grace and generosity in serving their community, especially those needing compassionate and high level skills at the end of life – some of our most precious moments.” The hospice where Diane volunteers is like Lionel Kelland Hospice in that it is a ten-bed facility where 24/7 nursing and medical care is available to individuals whose care needs exceed the capacity of being managed at home.
George Faught is Chairman of the Board of Marathon Gold Corporation and has been with the company since its formation. The company recently announced a large contribution to Lionel Kelland Hospice. Faught said that he and his wife are very supportive of the community-based hospice that will serve the people of Central Newfoundland by extending care to family members as they navigate through their loved one’s final journey and through their own grief.
Construction is well underway on Lionel Kelland Hospice and it is scheduled to open in mid-2023.
