Long-time residents and business owners in Grand Falls-Windsor have made a very generous contribution to help create Lionel Kelland Hospice. Frank and Thelma Howard have donated $50,000 to the Every Moment Matters campaign.
The donation is welcomed by the Campaign Chair who praised the couple for their leadership gift. Shelley Woolfrey said, “This is a very significant act of home-town generosity by business leaders. It brings us to the 70% mark towards our campaign goal of $2.7 million. We are truly grateful to be joined by the Howards in our efforts to build a place that will serve people from all over the central region.”
The Howards have several businesses, most notably, Riverview Motors in Grand Falls-Windsor. Frank Howard indicated that he has spoken to many people from rural communities, and they see the Hospice as a big benefit to families when their loved ones can no longer stay at home and need specialized care. The Howards have been following the progress of the Hospice project for a while and Mr. Howard said, “We are glad to see the project coming to fruition and to know that it will be operational in 2023.”
The province’s first community-based hospice will be 2,430 square metres and designed to meet the care needs of people at the end of life and to support their families. It will feature 10 private resident suites and spaces that enable families to be together. It is estimated that the Hospice will serve 140 families each year.
